Beck's Record Club
From beck.com:
We've been working on changes to the website for the last few months. We'll be adding new sections as they're ready. The first one to be added is called Record Club, an informal meeting of various people to record an album in a day. An album will be chosen to be reinterpreted and used as a framework. Nothing rehearsed or arranged ahead of time. A track will be uploaded once a week on beck.com as well as through the web sites of those involved with the project.
First up is Velvet Underground's The Velvet Underground & Nico. Check out the website for their cut on the opening track, "Sunday Morning." Give it to Beck for coming up with a pretty cool idea.

War Child Heroes compilation

I probably won't be available on Friday so here's a mid-week delight...
War Child, a Canadian based charity is releasing a compilation album (Feb 24th) where rock legends choo... choo... choose new bands to cover one of their songs. Pretty cool concept if you ask me and from the looks of the tracklist, the elders really know how to pick 'em. Kudos to P-fork for hooking us up with the stream of the TVOTR track. Honestly, I'm kinda lukewarm about it after only a few listens, but if it's like their other stuff I'm sure it'll grow on me.
TV on the Radio - "Heroes" (David Bowie)
Beck - "Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat (Bob Dylan)
The Kooks - "Victoria" (The Kinks)
The Hold Steady - "Atlantic City" (Bruce Springsteen)
Hot Chip - "Transmission" (Joy Division)
Lily Allen ft. Mick Jones - "Straight to Hell" (The Clash)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - "Sheena Is a Punk Rocker" (The Ramones)
Franz Ferdinand - "Call Me" (Blondie)
Duffy - "Live and Let Die" (Paul McCartney)
Estelle - "Superstition" (Stevie Wonder)
Rufus Wainwright - "Wonderful & Song for Children" (Brian Wilson)
Scissor Sisters - "Do the Strand" (Roxy Music)
Peaches - "Search and Destroy" (Iggy Pop)
Adam Cohen - "Take This Waltz" (Leonard Cohen)
Elbow - "Running to Stand Still" (U2)
The Like - "You Belong to Me" (Elvis Costello)

Hooray Friday!
- If you haven't seen the fan-made video for "Reckoner" selected by Radiohead themselves, check it out here, here or here. Thanks to Metro D and Ultra 8201.
- I'm still trying to get into Modern Guilt. Check that... I'm still trying to get into Beck. I'm not quite sure what it is about him. Some of his music I really like, but I have a hard time listening to an entire album. He just wears on me. In any event, I am Fuel has an acoustic Beck concert from 2003 posted and available for your listening/downloading pleasure.

Hooray Friday!
- New Beck kids! "Chemtrails" is the first single from his upcoming album. While I'm not a huge Beck fan, it sounds pretty solid.
- P-fork has a handy guide to this year's festivals. Yet another year of me not attending one of these. I'm thinking it ain't ever going to happen.
- Death Cab for Cutie performed "I Will Possess..." on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Thanks to the Music Slut.
- If you haven't heard Attack & Release yet, you're missing out. The Black Keys swung through NPR studios and performed 3 songs for World Cafe. You can also check out their concert at the 9:30 Club on All Songs Considered - can't believe I missed it.
- More NPR goodness with Hot Chip on World Cafe. October can't come soon enough, when these cats roll through through DC again...

Hooray Friday!
- Check out Wilco on SNL performing “Hate It Here” last week thanks to Brooklyn Vegan. This week, Vampire Weekend.
- Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks fans rejoice! Aquarium Drunkard has nine live tracks from a January concert in Portland.
- The Artic Monkeys and Rascals collide and the result is The Last Shadow Puppets. Check out the live version of Alex Turner and Miles Kane’s side project, “The Age of the Understatement” at I am fuel.
- Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails to headline Lollapalooza? That’s what the word on the street is. Thanks to BV.
- Beck covers Of Montreal’s “Wraith Pinned to the Mist”. Listen to it courtesy of You Ain’t No Picasso.
- Cat Power Black Session recorded at a French radio station in January is now available on Sixeyes.

Hooray Friday!
- The All Points West Festival lineup has been announced with Radiohead playing on Friday AND Saturday. Ah Jersey City, NJ… a beautiful area of the world. And let's not forget the fact that Jack Johnson has managed to score the trifecta in festival headlines this summer. Good on ya, Jack.
- I am fuel has a handful of Eddie Vedder/Bruce Springsteen collaborations posted for your listening pleasure.
- Same blog, different topic. This week’s music roundup had a new track from the Mountain Goats, a live one from Spoon, a White Stripes/Beck diddy and a Daft Punk cover.
- Apparently Maxim magazine reviewed the Black Crowes' upcoming album, Warpaint, without even hearing it. This reminds me of when I was in college and tried to write term papers without doing any research. Unlike Maxim though, I was never called on it (thankfully). Thanks to Product Shop NYC for the K.
- For those of you who have yet to discover Cloud Cult, you are missing out. The Meaning of 8 was a highlight of 2007 for me and they are following it up with the release of Feel Good Ghosts (Tea-Partying Through Tornadoes) in April. MFKWCRG has a track from the album, "When Water Comes to Life", which does not disappoint.
- Rihanna and the Klaxons got together at the 2008 Brit Awards and made a little "Umbrella" and "Golden Skans" love. The Music Slut provides the links.

Hooray Friday!
- Interesting Beck interview from the late-90s on An Aquarium Drunkard. I go back and forth on Beck's music, but I've come to the conclusion that I really need to be in the mood to listen to his stuff. If I'm not, he annoys the shit out of me.
- Trent Reznor... some of the stuff that comes out of his mouth is clearly douche-esque. But he actually put out a sensible, well thought-out and most importantly, understandable post on his website about the music industry today. Thanks to Metro D for the K.
- Belle and Sebastian covered Dinosaur Jr.'s "Freak Scene" and You Ain't No Picaso provides the link as well as a video of their Van Halen "Jump" cover.
- I am fuel continues her Pearl Jam obsession with demos from Eddie Vedder's Into the Wild soundtrack.
- A double-shot from I am fuel. The Black Crowes new album Warpaint is out March 4th - their first single, "Goodbye Daughters of the Revolution" is out now.
- The first round of confirmations for this year's Coachella are out now and Ultra 8201 is on the case.
- Daytrotter has a 4-song live set from Rogue Wave with an unreleased track. Good stuff!
