Hooray Friday!

- New music:
  • The Rosebuds, "Life Like," Life Like (Oct 7th), Ear Farm (link to stream entire album is also on that page)
- Looking for a Radiohead bootleg from their latest tour? Head over to Music is Art where they have the Mansfield, MA concert from last month posted and zipped up for easy downloading access. Cruise up a few posts and you'll find some of Radiohead's Neil Young covers. Thanks and congrats to LBJ.

- Can't get enough of Neil Young? Have a listen to Rogue Wave covering Neil Young's "Birds" over at I am fuel.

- La Blogotheque filmed two a capella videos of Yeasayer in an apartment and on a train. Thanks to Ulta 8201 for the K.

- The first album you bought with your own $$? Unfortunately I can't remember the first album I bought, and unfortunately I can remember the first CD I bought - the Batman soundtrack. Effing embarrassing. Anywho, the A.V. Club asks the same question to its staff and readers.

Yeasayer - Black Cat (4/10/2008)

I've been back and forth on this concert since last week. I wondered beforehand how Yeasayer's sound would come across live - both with the number and uniqueness of the instruments they use as well as their harmonies. Hell, a lot of people can pull that shit off in a studio. But it's a whole different ball of wax in concert. Let's just say I was curious.

Well, they definitely pulled off that part of it. I was amazed by what sounds came from what instruments and how they used them all in a live venue. Their harmonies were spot on as well. But what I couldn't figure out was the mood of the Black Cat. The audience just didn't seem that into them, which is interesting considering the fuss they created the last time they were in town.

Now mind you, Yeasayer eased into their set with some slower, longer diddies. Maybe they had already lost the crowd by the time they hit their groove... and with only one album in their pocket, that doesn't give them a lot of time to get it going (the set clocked in at right around 50 minutes). I don't know what it was, but it was weird.

This was the first concert I've ever been too that the band didn't come out for an encore. And honestly, I really don't blame them.

Hooray Friday!

- Scarlett Johansson is incredibly hot. That's a fact. Tom Waits songs are quality stuff. Another fact. I'm not sure that the two smashed together will be so good though. I guess we'll find out on May 6th, when her album of Tom Waits covers is released.

- Check out the interesting piece on mtv.com about the Brooklyn music scene with comments from Yeasayer, Grizzly Bear and more.

- Did you miss Radiohead's gig on radiohead.tv Wednesday night? If so, NME has the videos posted.

- Butter Team discusses the Walkmen's new album with frontman, Hamilton Leithauser and posted some tracks from it as well.

- Coachella may be putting together a festival for the east coast to enjoy this year. Possibly NY or NJ in August as reported by Perezhilton.com... my fingers won't let me link that trashy site, so I'll link the release on NME.
